Salvation Sunday: The Christmas Holiday Letdown!

For some of us it is back to work tomorrow. And for others it is time to take down the fun Christmas decorations. Have you ever felt sad right after the New Year knowing that the magic and mystery of Christmas is behind us?

I know I do; this season somehow seemed to go by so fast and suddenly we find ourselves in January. My husband always calls it the Christmas meltdown. And for Judah this year, it literally was a meltdown the afternoon we opened presents. The over stimulation just made a tired, cranky kid who laid on the floor kicking and screaming. Sometimes I do that as an adult.

At least this year we have had a mild winter (knock on wood) which will make the short winter days pass a little easier. But by February still, after super bowl season and before spring break, we tend to get cabin fever and a bout of depression.

Songwriter and music artist, Matthew West has this song called "Day After" on his titled Compact Disc, The Heart of Christmas. This song, "Day After" sums up nicely how we all as we head back to the old grind of life, putting the magic of Christmas away for another year.

Here comes the letdown Christmas is over
Here comes the meltdown, there goes the cheer
But before we have a breakdown, let us remember
The light of the world is still here

Happy day after Christmas

And merry rest of the year
Even when Christmas is over
The light of the world is still here
The light of the world

Come January I'm ready for summer
The Super Bowl's over and I'll settle for spring
Sometimes we all need a change in the weather
But it won't change the reason we sing

Happy day after Christmas
And merry rest of the year
Even when Christmas is over
The light of the world is still here
The light of the world
The light of the world
The light of the world

So take down the stockings, take back the sweaters
Take down the lights and the star and the tree
But don't let this world take your joy after Christmas
Take joy to the world and just sing

Happy day after Christmas
And merry rest of the year
Even when Christmas is over
The light of the world is still here

You know it does not have to be that way. The core of Christmas, Jesus Christ, lives beyond just Christmas Day. If we keep our focus on the real meaning of the season, then ever day can be Christmas.

A few years back, I found myself dreading this time of year as the dreary, cold winter months dragged on. Then I discovered why not make this a season about Christ's life. He was born on Christmas, died on Good Friday, and was resurrected on Easter Sunday - all for the purpose of saving mankind and offering hope of eternal life. This time of year is really a time of celebration of the life of Jesus Christ.

Let us live in the hope and magic of our faith in Jesus Christ. Let that be our New Year's Resolution this 2012 year.
